Professional Accomplishments

After a distinguished 44-year career as a trial attorney, including 125 cases tried to verdict, Larry retired as a founding partner of SmithAmundsen and joined Ringler shortly thereafter. His extensive litigation experience spans cases in Illinois and venues across the country, including Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New York, and Georgia, with a particular focus on transportation and traumatic brain injury claims.

Throughout his legal career, Larry gained firsthand experience with structured settlements from both the plaintiff and defense perspectives, giving him a unique understanding of the priorities and considerations on each side of a case. He also has experience structuring plaintiff attorney fees. Today, he brings that deep legal knowledge and practical courtroom perspective to his work as a settlement consultant, helping parties evaluate settlement options and navigate complex cases.

Larry’s industry leadership includes serving as Practice Group Chair for Transportation with the USLAW Network, as well as past president of both the Claims Association of Greater Chicago and the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel (IDC).

In recognition of his extensive contributions to the legal profession, Larry received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cook County Jury Verdict Reporter.
